Manningham Modern 2019

Context is proud to be a part of Manningham Modern, a guided bus tour highlighting some fine examples of mid-twentieth century homes in the City of Manningham.

After a successful launch of the self-guided tour in 2018, this year Manningham City Council  is presenting guided bus tours exploring mid-century housing and architecture around Doncaster, Bulleen and Templestowe.

Throughout the middle decades of the twentieth century there was rapid suburban growth around the fringes of Melbourne. Increased access to the motor car, growing prosperity in the post-World War II years, and the desire for the suburban lifestyle resulted in the push for new housing and services in the suburbs of Manningham and beyond.

The bus tours will be held as part of the National Trust’s 2019 Australian Heritage Festival, with commentary by Context’s Dr Christina Dyson and Mark Huntersmith, who lead Manningham’s heritage advisory service. The self-guided tour can be accessed in pdf and also as an interactive map here.
