Victoria’s Framework of Historical Themes
Heritage Victoria sought a framework to enable those working within heritage to tell Victoria’s stories in an engaging way and place the state’s history within a national context.
Frameworks of this type identify the distinctive history and heritage of an area in a way which connects diverse places and time periods, and provides a way of engaging with historical issues beyond a straight chronological approach.
The statewide themes were developed through a comprehensive literature review and workshop stage and were linked with the Australian Historical themes (Australian Heritage Commission).
After the framework was adopted, Context was reengaged to expand the themes further, particularly in relation to Victoria’s Aboriginal history. For this component of the project, we worked closely with the Heritage Council Victoria and the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Council.
